Funny Kid

Jack and I went to the playground today and when he gave me some fresh-baked pizza (aka "mulch"), some of it fell on my shoe. He immediately cleaned it up and then said, "You're all set, Missy."

I'm a Music Guy

We recently found my grampa's old harmonica and Jack has become quite attached to it. He calls it his "harmoncica." The other morning he started playing it and then he said to me, "I'm a music guy." Later when I asked him to pick up his toy measuring tape, he said, "I'm a music guy, not a tape guy." An hour later when I told him we needed to cut his nails, he said, "I'm a music guy, not a dirty guy."

I Need to Drive

Click here to see a video of Jack driving to get a chocolate donut. (When you get to the site it might say "this video is no longer available"--just click on the small picture of a car (it says "Jack" under it) to the right of the black screen.)

This morning on the way to daycare Jack said (out of the blue), "Thanks for driving, Mama."

Post-Texas Tech, Jack shows pride in the Huskers

p.s. Please note that this is a wonderful day in Austin: the first day of wearing a jacket to school.

A Touch Chauvinistic, If You Ask Me

Tonight Jack was out back watching Todd mow the lawn. I thought it might be getting too loud for him, so I asked him if he wanted to come out front with me.

He said, "No. Me help Daddy mow. Go wash dishes."

Imaginary Poop Pick-up Finds Jack in Hysterics

Calling Assistance from Auntie Kimmy...

Kimmy, since you have your masters (or at least you ACT like you do) in some type of language business, why do toddlers (namely mine) put the verb at the end of sentences?

For example, Jack will ask, "Where my dog is?"

And when I say, "No, you should say, 'Where IS my dog?'" he replies, "Oh. Where IS my dog is?"

Baby, Part Deux

According to Vegas, those of you that think it's a boy have a 50/50 chance of being right. Oddly, the chances of it being a girl are the same.

Truthful Potty Conversation

This morning when I went to get Jack out of bed the following conversation took place:

Jack: I pooped in my nap.
Mom: When are you going to poop in the potty?
Jack: I pee in the potty.
Mom: I know...when are you going to poop in the potty?
Jack: Not today.

So there you have it.

Nammit, Mom!

This is what Jack said to me when I put him in timeout this morning. I wonder what he meant by that...

Totally unaware of the camera...

Mo Peppa?

At a restaurant with my folks, mid-salad, Jack stood up and (in a slightly high-pitched voice) asked us each politely if we would like more pepper. It was still funny after the 32nd time.

Sorry, Ranny, I didn't get any pics of you and Jack this time--what a lazy photographer! Next time, I promise. I did, however, get a good video of Papa Herb and Jack playing trucks. Click here to watch. (Note about video: At times, Jack's "tickling" may appear to some as "pulling hair.")

Big Kid Moments

This morning I heard Jack on the monitor at 6. He was fussing a little bit, but kept saying "Buk, Buk!" The way the trend has been working lately, if he wakes up in the middle of the night unhappy, I just need to go in there and re-cover him up. No big wup, he falls right back to sleep. But usually if he wakes up after 5:30, that's all she wrote. The prospect of me going back to sleep is gone because at that point he wants to come "not sleep" in our bed (even thought he promises he'll sleep). So I was hesitant to go into his room because I was not ready to "not sleep." Anywho, his "Buk!" insistance kept getting louder, so I finally went in. It was pitch black and he was sitting up in his crib. I asked him if he wanted a book. He said yes. I gave him the Farmer in the Dell book. Apparently the wrong one, because he then said, "No, llama." So I gave him the Llama book and he happily laid back down, I covered him up, and he entertained himself with his book (pitch black, remember) and slight cat naps for the next 45 minutes. Once he finally did get up and was playing on our bed, he said, "Dess." I thought he was saying "grass" and that he wanted to go outside, but he kept saying, "Dess," and eventually ran out of the room. He came back a minute later with a shirt and a pair of shorts. Turns out he wanted to get dressed. Basically he had a Big Kid morning. Not to fear, however, there was plenty of regressing to 2-yr-old standards throughout the day.
