Nammit, Mom!

This is what Jack said to me when I put him in timeout this morning. I wonder what he meant by that...

Totally unaware of the camera...

Mo Peppa?

At a restaurant with my folks, mid-salad, Jack stood up and (in a slightly high-pitched voice) asked us each politely if we would like more pepper. It was still funny after the 32nd time.

Sorry, Ranny, I didn't get any pics of you and Jack this time--what a lazy photographer! Next time, I promise. I did, however, get a good video of Papa Herb and Jack playing trucks. Click here to watch. (Note about video: At times, Jack's "tickling" may appear to some as "pulling hair.")

Big Kid Moments

This morning I heard Jack on the monitor at 6. He was fussing a little bit, but kept saying "Buk, Buk!" The way the trend has been working lately, if he wakes up in the middle of the night unhappy, I just need to go in there and re-cover him up. No big wup, he falls right back to sleep. But usually if he wakes up after 5:30, that's all she wrote. The prospect of me going back to sleep is gone because at that point he wants to come "not sleep" in our bed (even thought he promises he'll sleep). So I was hesitant to go into his room because I was not ready to "not sleep." Anywho, his "Buk!" insistance kept getting louder, so I finally went in. It was pitch black and he was sitting up in his crib. I asked him if he wanted a book. He said yes. I gave him the Farmer in the Dell book. Apparently the wrong one, because he then said, "No, llama." So I gave him the Llama book and he happily laid back down, I covered him up, and he entertained himself with his book (pitch black, remember) and slight cat naps for the next 45 minutes. Once he finally did get up and was playing on our bed, he said, "Dess." I thought he was saying "grass" and that he wanted to go outside, but he kept saying, "Dess," and eventually ran out of the room. He came back a minute later with a shirt and a pair of shorts. Turns out he wanted to get dressed. Basically he had a Big Kid morning. Not to fear, however, there was plenty of regressing to 2-yr-old standards throughout the day.

"Weets, weets!"

Translation: "Sweep, sweep!" This is what Jack innocently said to me after he poured an entire container of Nesquick powder on the kitchen floor. I think this is what the experts call "independent play." Bless...his...heart.

He Has Officially Arrived...

Jack has entered the stage that some might call the Terrible Twos. Other, more PC folks out there, would call him a "spirited child." This weekend was spent whining, crying or simply yelling "No" (him, not us). It could be that he's getting his molars, has a bad case of diarrhea, and just started a new daycare. Or maybe this is him morphing into another being. (Click here to watch him in all his Two-ness.)

Aside from being "spirited", Jack is very resourceful, as you can see from the photo. This was taken just after I took a bag of cornmeal from him and moved it to a higher shelf because I told him I didn't want him playing with it. So instead of smiling and saying "of course, Mother", as all toddlers should, he scurried off to get a pack of diapers to stand on to retrieve the aforementioned cornmeal. I had to laugh, as I was quite impressed by his spunk.

On another note, he has been putting two words together quite a bit lately. On of my favorites is "More, please." But my most favorite of all is "Hody hody", which is what he says when he wants me to hold him.

Someday, This Picture Will Haunt Him

Little Man's Best Friend

Jack and Bones have been spending a lot of time hanging out (just the two of them) in the backyard. Usually Jack is following Bones with his lawnmower or giving her a hug while saying "Aawwwwww." Other times he is crouched down watching her eat a bone. Or Jack is scolding Bones for barking or chasing squirrels. Luckily Bones is very accepting of this (what I imagine would be annoying) behavior. In case you are wondering, I spend this glorious time on the couch drinking wine.

Doo

That's what you say when I ask you how old you are. "Doo." You also know your name and how strong you are. I can't believe another year has gone by already. You seem to change daily. We've been working on counting (you have the right sing-song tone to your voice, but everything is "dee"--which is your way of saying three..we'll work on that) and colors (everything seems to start out as red). You like things in order, you're shy around new people, and you know how to be sneaky (by claiming innocence and then smirking with a sideways glance). I never knew someone so young could understand manipulation. And be so charming at it. You're also a drama queen. The slightest injury is a traumatic experience for you. You request ice at the slightest bump, and moan for days about a scraped knee (often pointing at the wrong one...). You can be serious, funny, cranky and sweet in a matter of minutes.

I love you so very much, Little Man, and am thankful for you every day. Happy Birthday. I can't wait to see what this next year brings out in you.

We've just moved to a new house, so that's my excuse for the lack of posts lately...I'll come up with another excuse next month.
