Jackisms
A new boy started in Jack's class the other day. When I picked Jack up from school, I asked him if the kids were nice to Weldon on his first day and he said, "Oh yeah, because he's very handsome and follows all the rules." Apparently the standards are pretty high these days on the pre-k playground.
Today while driving to school, Todd pulled up next to us on the highway. Jack looked over at him and quoted the movie Cars: "You drive like you fix roads: lousy."

Two

Happy birthday, Sweet Lucy Jane! I can't believe it's already been two years since you were a tiny five-pound preemie in the NICU. You've come a long way...
You're very determined and very stubborn (it has been said that you get that from me). You're vocabulary has been exploding lately and you use full sentences. There are still times when I can't understand what you're saying, and you get pretty frustrated. I try to just say something generic like, "Oh, really? Yeah..." but you see right through me and won't stop until I know exactly what you are saying. Jack is often your translator--for some reason he can understand about everything you say.
You like to eat. Often. And a lot. "I hungee, Mama." But you're pretty picky. No sandwiches, no vegetables. You love to dip things in ketchup.
Jack watches out for you. You two play well together about 30% of the time. He drives you crazy the other 70%. But you light up when you see him in the morning.
I think you're going to be girly. You love to wear dresses, carry purses, and put on lipstick (thank you, Aunt Kimmy).
Your dad and I were so excited to have a little girl. I love your sweetness and I love your determination. I love everything about you. Happy happy birthday, Goose.

The things I learn at 6:24 in the morning when Jack jumps into my bed
Hey Mom, do you know why I don't want to be a pilot when I grow up? Because I'm afraid I'll press the wrong button and hit a building. Then a police officer will come and give me a ticket. Also, I don't want to be a pilot because I'm going to be a chef. But you can come to my restaurant. I'll still be in Texas, but I'll live in a different house.
I don't like chapel. I don't have to go to chapel because I'm going to be in Tennessee. Isn't that awesome? Chapel's boring. It's boring to sit in those boring seats and sing boring songs. The only kind of songs I like to sing is "Beat It." That's the only kind.

Jack's version of being an adult
At a restaurant tonight I took a picture of a couple (for them, not me...) who looked like they were probably on vacation. Jack asked me later in the car why people would want a picture from when they were on vacation. I told him it was so they could look at it later on and remember their vacation. Kind of like when I take pictures of you and Lucy when you're kids, I told him, so you can look at them when you're older.
He then asked me if he would still be a kid when he was seven. Yeah, I told him. You're going to be a kid for a LONG time still. But it's more fun to be a kid than an adult anyway.
Yeah, he said. Being an adult is boring. All you do is slap some food in the oven and let it could for like an hour, and stare straight ahead when you're driving like you're doing now. All that stuff is boring.
